Honestly, with technology we have these days animal testing is not needed any more...it is a proven fact that only 3% of animals testing was proved to work and more than 75.000 people die from the testing back firing on humans...so if you ask me it's a big watse of time...and frankly just an excuse for humans to mis-treat animals

Animals are the only pure creatures on earth. We as have stripped them of their rights to live regardless of the belief that we are somewhat superior. Animals have instinct that exceeds ours, and by demolishing the animal kingdom we are being selfish not only towards the animals but the many future generations. We are, as each day passes, destroying the earth, the earth that we are so desperatley trying to savour. people tend to believe that animals lack the ability to tell us how it feels, and often believe that there is no true indication as to what they are feeling, however I remind you when one is in pain, we tend to scream , shrek anything to put off the attack of our oppressor. These animals have 300 million more of their kind. We have 5 billion more of our kind. And we're teetering on the edge of overpopulation. Now, I'm not saying humans SHOULD be test subjects, but these animals do not need to suffer for us. We do not need to do this to them. They haven't done anything to us. They are not just "some animal caught in the woods". They are innocent, living creatures who feel just as much pains as you or I, and there is no more reason for them to suffer than us. We are no more important than any other species. The world would continue functioning perfectly if we disappeared, and frankly, it would probably be better off without us.

if our human race was really that advanced as people have said, we'd fine other ways in which we made medicine.

Think about it - the only reason things get tested is because of the possible chemical reactions. who would want all those chemicals in and on their bodies anyway?? as a vegan, i'm completely against the use of animal products in any way and animal testing. it's been proven that most of the tests dont work anyway... a sweetener that was being tested at Huntington Life Sciences killed hundreds of thousands of animals and yet it's still on the shelves... i'll never understand it. :???:

Well, a lot is wrong with animal testing. There are many other alternatives. Animals are being abused for no scientific reason. It is proven that all species are different and react to different substances, it is impossible to find medical miracles for humans by using animals. DId you know that asprin kills cats? And owls have no regative reaction to cyanide!? Lets say your dog spot was sick, could you find a cure for his disease by experimenting on your healthy uncle bob? No, I dont think so. Also Americans pay millions of tax dollars every year to support animal testing. If these tests stopped then the taxes would decline and everyone would be happy. Animal testing really doesn't make any medical breakthroughs. and any company that test their cosmetics on animals is insane! Avon and many other cosmetic companies have found alternate ways to test their merchandise. Everyone read this and help stop animal testing!

If you go to PETA's website they can tell you what products were tested on animals. Animal testing is wrong, we truly don't need it, besides a huge majority of our testing is for: cosmetics. Iams and many other dog food companys test their food on animals. They leave them in tiny wire cages by them selves, they often get their voice boxes removed because they cried out for attention too much.
If you truly care about animals you should visit PETA's web site they not only tell you about animal testing, but other ways animals are being abused and how you can do something about.
Please boycott Petco and Petsmart until they cut their current supplier of live animals off. They have been abusing and killing thousands of animals. Nearly all of the animals from them are sick.
I definetly think that animal testing is wrong! Cus it is!!!!!!!!!! I mean why do animals have to suffer the way people test them?? If you are a boy I can understand. Boys don't usually go for soft and fuzzy cute little animals. Ok i'm gunna try to put this in words boys can understand. Imagine a snake or spider being tested on. Would you want animal testing then? hello. I've just read about all of you comments on this issue and before you start talking about how wrong it is, I think you should specify which part of it you think is wrong. By saying Animal testing is wrong, are you refering to every part of it? Well recently some friends and I visited a animal testing lab as part of a project we were doing, and got to go inside and look at all the animals and the conditions they were in, and meet the staff. We thought it was going to be terrible, with blood everywhere and everything, but to our suprise it actually wasnt. The rabbits live in these massive cages which are like 2 meters wide, and they have all of these regulations and everything they have to follow. The diseases they test are mostly neurological diseases which aren't painful, and experiments about seeing and memory and things ( there are laws there that prohibits any experiments which would, or humans would feel to be, highly painful), but cause you to become forgetful. These experiments cannot be done with any other materials the scientists have invented. Neurological diseases and disesases which affect certain areas of the body cannot be done any other way but to be tested on animals and they breed rats which have human like DNA in them so they react in a simmilar way to a human, and I know for a fact Because I have actually been to a lab, and met multiple doctors from different sides on this issue. The head doctor said that they agreed that "animal testing should be done only for medical research, only as an alternative when there is no other suitable way". I have been studying the morals of this for nearly 6 months now, and agree that it is wrong for cosmetic research and any medial research where there are other alternatives.
I would also liek to point out that most of those photos of horrible things been done to animals, are from years and years ago, and it doesn't give you a specific date or location. So don't believe everything you see! medical research in some countries have much better laws on it now.
Animal testing is still a very hard issue to talk about, because there are so many pros and cons.
People who test make up on animals are stupid, because they are all about vanity, and there aren't as many regulations for it.
But, if the person you loved most was dying from a disease which could only be cured by animal testing then you wouldnt probably object to it as much as you should.
But i agree that it is definetly wrong, and we should try and find a better way to test for diseases than to test on poor animals, who haven't done anything wrong to deserve being treated badly.

i am doing sci case study on animal testing. i think its ok but not for cosmetics and only if there are no alternatives. + suffering should be kept to a minimum. computers arent designed well enough to do all testing at the moment.
this is part of my conclusion for my project (very long but i swear it will make you think -it made me think too)...
...It seems fair to say that only a monster would want to deny someone a life saving operation just because a few monkeys get hurt in the process. Maybe, but you should look at how vast the field of animal testing is, not just in Europe (which, I have found, has some of the strictest codes of conduct in the world) but also globally. It’s quite simple to make the argument that experiment A leads to outcome B, and that outcome B (child walking again, or cancer patient surviving) justifies the suffering caused to non-human animals in the process.
What people tend to ignore, however, is research with no specific objective. If animal suffering is justified by positive outcomes for human individuals, then experiments with no clear beneficiaries are surely much harder to defend? And if you're simply defending all experimentation, on the belief that it might, one day, be useful for something, is that right? I don't think it is.
This approach to the argument also leads to questions like this: About 100 monkeys dying are worth thousands of people walking. Let’s suppose that’s a fair trade. What happens, however, if we start playing around with the numbers? Are 100 monkeys dying worth 100 people walking? What about 100,000 monkeys against 20 walkers? What basis do you use to make a calculation such as that in the first place? If I’m in a wheelchair, how much suffering am I entitled to cause to benefit myself? This is where I get confused.
Taken further, it would be interesting to see how far those who justify animal's suffering on the basis that the gains are so great are willing to pursue that thought. Many argue that they only support or participate in animal testing because there’s no alternative, and that the suffering of animals is regrettable but necessary. How many of these are vegetarians or vegans? Surely if you're going to allow suffering so children might walk, you must realise that the amount of suffering caused by factory farming in no way justifies the additional enjoyment people take in eating meat over eating something else. This is particularly true when you think about how the production of meat is a hugely inefficient use of natural resources, as well as damaging to the environment.
One of the original basis's for supporting animal testing is the simple belief that humans are intrinsically more valuable than other species. It is this principle that underlines all animal testing in all uses of animals. I'd guess that very few would support the experiments above if it was 100 humans sacrificed to allow thousands, or even tens of thousands of other humans to walk. I definitely wouldn't.
You can find certain characteristics that, on the whole, humans have above non-human's: a wide range of emotions and desires, the capacity to empathise with others emotions, the ability to think in terms of abstract concepts, the understanding of ourselves as an entity existing in time. I think that these are all valuable characteristics and make the existence of those who possess them different- maybe even 'superior'- to those who don't.
Two main problems appear with this kind of reasoning though. Firstly, scientists now know that many species of non-human animals do possess these characteristics, to greater or lesser degrees. The Great Ape Project argues that basic rights, similar to ‘human’ rights, should be given to particular groups of primates, which is founded on this idea. If these kind of qualities are what make us human, and therefore entitle us to certain protections (including protection against being experimented on) then how can experiments on non-human animals who share the same characteristics possibly be justified?
The second point is linked: the kind of qualities used to distinguish humans from non-human's could also be used to distinguish between different humans. Humans who have suffered severe brain damage, or who were born with serious neurological deformities might lack some or all of the abilities above. Although we may think that their quality of life is poor, or inferior to the norm, hardly anyone would seriously argue that they could be used for experimentation. And if we’re horrified at the suggestion that someone with a lower mental capacity than a pig, for example, could be used for organ donation while still alive, why does the idea that genetically modified pigs could be used for the same thing in humans not fill us with disgust? I think it's because humans are our species, and therefore we find it easier to empathise and sympathise with each other. If someone made me choose between the life of a stranger and the life of my brother I would probably choose my brother. Why? Because I know him and I would feel for him. It is similar with animal testing-if I had to choose between a human and a monkey to be tested, I would choose the monkey. It's about how much each individual believes one life is worth over another.
None of this means that I’m opposed to animal testing. In fact, I support it in lots of circumstances. This is the same moral intuition that means I don't support the use of the very mentally-impaired in the same types of experiments. But I don’t think moral intuitions are always right. I think that it depends on how serious the need is for the drug. For example, I don't agree with any animal testing for cosmetics. There are enough hairsprays and lipsticks in the market already, and it would be causing unnecessary suffering to test even more cosmetic products on animals. But I do agree with medical drugs being tested on animals, when there is no alternative, as these benefit many humans with the suffering of a few animals.
However, I'm not sure where to draw the line on how many animal lives a human life is worth. It makes me think that with humans starting wars, polluting the planet and treating animals and other humans unequally and cruelly, who are we to judge what a life is worth? Or is anything entitled to make a decision such as that? Or is it the classic Darwin theory of evolution- the survival of the fittest, which would mean that because we have the ability to think as 'deeply' as this and make these choices, we are naturally allowed to value a life's worth? I think, overall, it depends. It depends on how much we need the particular drug e.g. I agree with animal testing to develop a drug for AIDS, but not to make a new toilet cleaner. It isn't necessary. It also depends on how much suffering is involved for the animals and how many are used, though I'm not decided about actual figures e.g. I'm not sure about 5000 monkeys being sacrificed for one human life, but if ants were in the monkeys places, I wouldn't be too bothered. It is all based on what moral beliefs each particular person possesses.
People opposed to animal experimentation also argue about it's reliability. While there is a case for the alternatives to animal testing, some activists believe that animal testing is completely worthless and is basically done just for kicks and thrills for scientists who care more about inflicting pain than achieving accurate results. On some levels this is true, as animals anatomies and reactions aren't the same as ours, but there are things to be learnt from animal testing, and many experiments can't be done using alternative methods because the technology isn't advanced enough yet. Also I think it is better to test drugs on animals than on humans. And there is some accuracy in the results, albeit not always, and without animal testing it is true that almost all drugs and operations would be very unsafe.
One thing I am very sure about though, is this: both sides of the argument can be manipulated. If, say, the anti-testing protesters disappeared, the government would probably not be so tight with animal testing regulations, and conditions for the animals could become really bad. I also think that a lot of the truth about animal experimentation is swept user the carpet, and that if the public knew more about it they would be able to make a better calculated opinion, which I think we deserve. After all, the public are the people who use the end products of animal testing, so we of all people should know the truth...

really, the people who say animal testing is wrong are right, but whoever said the products would be tested on people if they're not tested on animals areright, too. So what do we do? Animal testing is bad,but think about all the other problems to animals- haven't you ever thought about pollution (and bla bla bla)? In this case you'd probably realise that this is not the biggest problem... but really, how could you possibly harm a cute creature? :neutral:
OMG i am doing an English project on animal testing and it appalls me to think of how many animals each year are being killed! did you know that 61% of all animal tests do NOT use anesthesia? I am am 14 and this is such a huge issue!

there r so many pics on the internet that show the cruelty of animal testing. 33 animals die each second from testing. THAT IS NUTS! anyway, animals are not going 2 b using lipstick and lotion. so y should they go through the pain??? i am only a kid, but i think this is an issue that should be taken into bigger thoughts.

Please, all humans, start to consider yourselves as better than animals. I am an animal lover that eats meat, even kills a fair share of it. I have concluded that animals do live free, for their senses are tuned for survival, and they are ignorant. They are not human after all. THINK ABOUT THAT. They do not reason like a human, they do not live in fear of "testing", or any specific threat. They do have tremendous abilities, can sense things we can only imagine, and are wonderful and interesting. They do not worry about the things we worry about, excepting filling their bellies, and procreating. I will never condone torturing or frivolous killing of beautiful creatures (and they are all beautiful), but if you can test a potentially human life-saving product on an animal, then by all means go for it. Just don't be eye-balling my dog!
